WASHINGTON

Shooting at Stonehenge (well, the one in Washington)

On our recent road trip to California, we made an unforgettable stop in Maryhill, Washington, home to the Stonehenge Memorial, a full-scale replica of the original monument in England. Perched high above the Columbia River, it’s a hauntingly beautiful site that feels ancient, futuristic, and oddly out of place… which is exactly why we chose it to film the music video for our song “Communication.”

The track is one of the more cosmic cuts off our new album Bolo, and it's all about the things we try to say, the signals we send, and how often they’re misunderstood or completely missed. There’s a longing in it, a call into the void, and we wanted a setting that echoed that feeling.

The original Stonehenge has long been shrouded in mystery, its true purpose still debated. Some think it was a burial site. Others say it was a calendar. And of course, there's the theory that it’s some kind of interstellar antenna — a prehistoric attempt at extraterrestrial communication. Whether you believe in aliens or just really good acoustics, we thought the Stonehenge Memorial was the perfect backdrop for a song about reaching out and not knowing if anyone's listening.

Shooting there was surreal. Surrounded by towering stones and wind howling off the gorge, we set up our gear and played the track on repeat while the sun burned a path across the sky. We filmed, pondered, and freaked ourselves out a little bit. There’s a strange power in that place. Not just because it’s a war memorial (which it is), but because it makes you feel very small and very connected at the same time.

Check out the “Communication” video below… We can’t wait for you to see how that wild, windswept energy found its way into the final cut.

Keep your antenna up. You never know who — or what — might be trying to reach you.
