Deep Trouble is a rock band that blends explosive energy with lyrical depth. Drawing inspiration from a mash-up of rock, punk and disco (a sound they’ve dubbed “Pisco,”) their music is a powerful fusion of groove, aggression, and infectious melody. At the heart of Deep Trouble is frontman Deep, a seasoned songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a globe-spanning career. From composing scores for major television series to electrifying crowds with various indie acts, Deep’s musical journey has been anything but ordinary. Now, he’s channeled that hard-earned experience into a bold new chapter. With four full-length albums released in their first year, Deep unites a crew of talented young musicians to form a dynamic four-piece that’s redefining what a modern rock band can be. 

As wildfires raged across BC in the summer of 2023, Deep crossed paths with dynamic drummer Ryden, instantly sensing a kindred musical connection. After a rewarding career composing soundtrack music in Los Angeles, Deep was eager to return to his roots as a songwriter and performer, and he had a wealth of original material ready to record. Ryden, seizing the moment, rallied his closest friends from his school days, Jack and Cole, to form a band. Their first rehearsal was electric, sparking a shared excitement about the group’s potential. Amid evacuation orders and threatening flames, the band adapted by setting up their music studio outdoors. 

As the skies darkened and water bombers roared overhead, the band chose to embrace the elemental chaos, honing their sound in the midst of the inferno. Their first two releases, Volume 1: First Offense and Volume 2: 2nd Degree, are infused with incendiary imagery, hot licks and genre-bending sounds. The irreverent lyrics are often spawned from chance encounters or downright objectionable situations. You never know what will end up in a song! The tracks vary from throbbing instrumentals to angsty ruminations. “Mind Warp” mixes elements of rock, electronica and rap. The thunderous “Rumble Run," inspired by the bravery of the soldiers in Ukraine, could easily be adopted as their battle anthem. “Sex Pest” and “Shake Me” explore frustrating relationships, while wrapped in catchy, punk rock melodies. 

Volume 3: Third Strike highlights the ups and downs of romance ("Meet Me in the Mirror" and “Spirit of Love”) with a focus on upbeat, edgy hooks. Volume 4: Bolo is a closer for the 4-album set, coming to a resolution of accepting chaos and trouble and what to be on the look out for. “Don't Know What You Got” and “What I Believe” critique self-centered capitalism in modern society.

As they continue to rise from the ashes of their origin, Deep Trouble debuts as a fiery force on the rock scene. This exciting collaboration blends seasoned artistry with upstart, innovative energy, promising a powerful fusion of rock influences and contemporary sounds that will redefine the genre and electrify audiences everywhere.

Doug Deep - Vocals/Guitar

Having spent many years as a successful composer for film and TV projects such as Survivor and The Amazing Race, Deep is a prolific songwriter, producer and performer. As a performer in several indie touring bands, he has shared the stage with the likes of The Tragically Hip and Kim Mitchell. A master of both gritty and smooth vocal styles, Deep brings an electrifying presence to the stage. His guitar work is a blend of intricate riffs and raw, driving rhythms, mirroring the frenetic energy of his vocal delivery. Deep’s songwriting is influenced by the poetic storytelling of Bob Dylan and the enigmatic charisma of Jim Morrison, giving the lyrics a profound and introspective edge.

Cole Eriksson - Guitar

Cole’s intricate musical chops are a result of his formal music studies at Selkirk College in BC, practical experience as a guitar tech in a local music shop, self-taught classical techniques, and life’s valuable lessons. Cole’s guitar solos on his signature Flying V are quickly becoming the stuff of legend, characterized by their technical prowess and emotive power. His bursts of shredding rock god-ism riffs, mixed with neo-classical jazz funk rhythms, create a rich, layered sound that propels the band’s intense, high-octane performances.

Ryden Starkell - Drums

Ryden’s drumming is a relentless force, blending complex rhythms with high-energy, infectious beats. Ryden began his music journey at age 3, eagerly encouraged by his mother to practice the drums on her own kit. His dynamic drumming style of fierce abandon and focused energy is influenced by the rhythmic innovation of his rock icons (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Linkin Park), providing a robust and energetic foundation that keeps the band’s sound tight and explosive.

BAN Jonze (Brad ) - Filmmaker/Videographer

Award-winning filmmaker and integral “5th member” of Deep Trouble, Brad is the mischievous mastermind behind the band’s wild and outrageous video style, urging them to push boundaries with a grin that says, "Trust me, this will be legendary."  A graduate of the filmmaking program at Okanagan College, Brad has a knack for turning every band practice and live show into a cinematic spectacle of epic absurdity. His relentless enthusiasm for new visual experiments ensures that the band’s music videos are as unpredictable and entertaining as their live performances.
